Mushroom Heat Mat with Thermostat
Setting up a thermostatically controlled heat mat to warm your mushroom grow kit is straightforward. Follow these steps to create the ideal temperature environment for optimal mushroom growth:
1. Choose the Right Location
- Place the heat mat on a flat, stable surface where you can safely set up your grow kit.
- Avoid placing the mat directly on cold floors like concrete, as this can affect temperature regulation.
2. Position the Mushroom Grow Kit
- Place your mushroom grow kit container on top of the heat mat. If your grow kit is in a plastic tote or box, you can place the entire container directly on the mat for even warmth distribution.
- Make sure the substrate or grow bag is close to the mat's heating surface without any insulating layers in between.
3. Attach the Temperature Probe
- The thermostat comes with a temperature probe (a 2-meter lead cable) that monitors the heat mat’s temperature.
- Important: Secure the probe to one of the black heating sections of the mat using sellotape. This ensures accurate readings of the heat mat's surface temperature.
- Stick the probe firmly to avoid it detaching during use.
4. Set the Desired Temperature
- The mat comes pre-set to turn on at 26°C and off at 27°C, which is ideal for maintaining the right conditions for mushroom colonization and growth.
- To adjust these settings if needed:
- Press and hold the left arrow button on the thermostat for 3 seconds to set the ON temperature. Use the up and down arrows to adjust the temperature, then wait 5 seconds for it to save.
- Press and hold the right arrow button for 3 seconds to set the OFF temperature, then use the up and down arrows as needed.
5. Power On and Monitor
- Plug in the heat mat and make sure the thermostat is displaying the correct temperature. The mat will automatically maintain the set range.
- The digital thermostat will turn the heat mat on and off as needed, keeping the substrate in the ideal range without constant adjustments.
6. Optional: Use a Plastic Storage Tote as an Incubator
- For even more consistent warmth, consider placing the grow kit and heat mat inside a large plastic storage tote. This setup creates an incubator effect, which helps trap warmth and humidity—ideal for faster colonization.
- Ensure there’s proper ventilation, as mushrooms need fresh air exchange during different growth stages.
Additional Tips
- Avoid covering the entire setup with a blanket or other insulating material, as this could cause overheating.
- Monitor the temperature regularly, especially in the initial stages, to ensure everything is functioning properly.
